The Eibar Model : Another Kind Of Football Is Possible (Season 3 Act 1) #FM17

Welcome to my latest update, pre season as been very busy with me giving the squad a shake up. After last season I decided that a few things needed to change  including our tactics, whilst I still want us to play attacking football whilst pressing our opponents I feel we needed to take a step back and rethink our strategy. One of the first things I did was to send a chunck of our successful under 19 squad to our affiliate who are basically our B team who I have released a number of players who I don’t think are up to the standard required to make our first team. . The remaining under 19 squad are mostly 16 and 17 year olds. Hopefully the players promoted to our B team will kick on in their development. Then it was time to look at our first team squad has I wanted to freshen up the club it ment a number of players would leave the club to make room for the new boys, so the following transfers were made.

Transfers Out

Iker Muniain Newcastle Utd £11m

Sergi Enrich Malaga £6.5m

Antonio Luna St Etienne  £3m

Mauro Dos Santos Villarreal  £4m

Anaitz Arbilla Braga £3m

Javi Castellano Tenerife £1.5m

Josep Maria Flores West Ham  £1.4m

Jordi Calavera Córdoba £1m

Ivan Ramis Numancia £10k

Total £31.9m

Transfers In

Rodrigo Bentancur Boca Juniors  £5.25m

Moi Gómez Celta Vigo  £5m

Rodri Villarreal  £4.1m

Sabin Athletic Club  £3.3m

Ricardo Centurion Sao Paulo  £2.7m

Diego Reyes FC Porto  £1.7m

Luc Castaignos Sporting £1m

Iñaki Peña Villarreal C £1m

Luca Pellegrini AS Roma Loan

Stefano Magnasco Universidad Catolica Loan

Total £24m

So a very different Eibar side for the season ahead plus we have a minus net transfer spend in this window  which keeps us in a very good financial position after the big profits we made during the first 2 seasons at the club. I feel we have a stronger squad of players with the additions made during this window which hopefully will lead us to our best position in the table during my reign at the club. So to the players we have brought in to the club, Rodrigo Bentancur signed from Boca Juniors for  £5.25m can play out wide in a right inside forward position or centrally were I plan to play him in a advanced playmaker role. Moi Gomes signed from Celta Vigo for £5m, Gomes is an attacking player who can play on both flanks. I was pleased with the opportunity to sign defensive midfielder Rodri from Villareal for £4.1m, Rodri was my favourite player on FM16, I promoted him from the youth team at the Yellow Submarine and he instantly repaid my faith in him with outstanding performances. I then signed Sabin a left sided attacking player from Athletic Club for £3.3m Another left sided player Ricardo Centurion from Sao Paulo signed for £2.7m gives us another good option out wide. I snapped up Mexican Central Back Diego Reyes from FC Porto for £1.7m, Reyes adds quality to our back line. Dutch  forward Luc Castaignos replaces the outgoing Sergi Enrich for just £1m from Sporting Club Portugal. Goalkeeper Iñaki Peña has joined from Villarreal C for £1m and possess all the attributes to be a top keeper and was signed with the future very much in mind. Two loan players full backs Luca Pellegrini from AS Roma and Stefano Magnasco from Universidad Catolica  will provide cover for our full backs.  I feel we have an exciting group of new players who we need to integrate in to the squad as quickly as possible.

Our pre season training will take us to sunny England to prepare for the season ahead. I will be keeping a close eye on how our B team players shape up in the months ahead has I plan to integrate a few of them in to the first team squad next season, that is if I get a new contract because I am in my last year of my current deal. So that ends this quick update, my next update should be live Sunday or Monday at the latest when you will be able to see how we have faired in the first half of the season.

Thanks for reading
