My Story An Introduction To A Estrela Solitária (The Lone Star) In The Shadow Of A Flawed Genius #FM17

a114eeb0ff9384edb13a338c3ab29afeBotafogo de Futebol e Regatas or you may know them as Botafogo FC, a Brazilian football club based in the state of Rio de Janeiro. I have spent a lot of time this last FM release watching footage of Botafogo from years gone by none less so from their golden age of the 1960’s which saw the club having 5 players which was the backbone to Brazils’ 1962 World Cup winning squad, they were Nilton Santos (the worlds first wing back), Didi, Mario Zagallo, Amarildo and last but not least the remarkable Garrincha who was born with 2 bowed legs in fact one was shorter than the other but this didn’t stop him becoming one of the greatest players of all time. But it was not just these 5 that caught my eye there are many more Jairzinho, Quarentinha, Carvalho Leite, Helenio De Freitas and Gerson to name a few. Now it’s 2022 and we are….. hang on a minute I have not told you about the previous years have I ?

Thanks For Nothing Fernando Santos ! Wolves Season 2 Review #FM17

Wolverhampton_Wanderers.svgWelcome to my season two round up with Wolves. If you read my season one round up you will know that we won promotion to the Premier League by winning the Championship, and if you are wondering about the title of this post, well you will have to read on. The board wanted us to avoid relegation from the Premier League and gave me a transfer budget of £9m in the summer and then £17m in December ready for the winter transfer window. I agreed to the avoid relegation option even though in my mind I never thought that we would be involved in a battle at the wrong end of the table come the end of the season but I don’t see no point in putting pressure on yourself in your first season back in the big time.

A New Direction For thewideplaymaker.com #FM18 #wearethecommunity

IMG_20170819_001754FM18 is around 12 weeks away from release day and whilst I have been away on holiday I have been thinking about what direction this blog is going in, I have even considered not blogging about FM but after a few conversations with people in and around the FM scene I have decided to continue the blog but with more variation which includes a few friends from around the globe collaborating on a number of topics including FM experiments, creating tactics to emulate some of the great managers from past and present, storyline game saves and general FM topics. One of our new members has been an active member of the FM community for a number of years but would like to remain in the background and will be using a famous British footballing name for his work on thewideplaymaker.

The Boys From The Black Country #FM17

cropped-20170812_225042.jpgWelcome to Molineux the home of Wolverhampton Wanderers, I am on a 17 day holiday from work so I have loaded the laptop up with FM and headed South for a coastal relaxation with a trip to Amsterdam in between to watch Ajax against Groningen. Now I never really thought that I would write anything about this save but whilst I have got in to it I am enjoying it and thought that I would write a few lines about it whilst keeping it nice and brief so here it is. The database I am using is from sortitoutsi with all the latest transfers included.

A Year In Dortmund Ends With A Move To France #FM17 #wearethecommunity

Painnt_170730191017Welcome to my latest post tracking my managerial career which as taken me from Amsterdam to Dortmund, my first 6 months in Dortmund have been interesting has we look to to bring in a new era to this fantastic club.  In the two years that I was in Amsterdam Dortmund have finished 3rd and 4th in the Bundesliga and not managed to pick up any silverware on the way. Both the B team and Youth team have been depleted of players which is a real shame because the club had some real potential but all is not lost and the club still have some talent to work with beyond the 1st team squad. The board made available a budget of £39m for transfers.
