With FM18 just around the corner I have decided to put together a few short team guides for anyone looking for a team to manage. Rayo Vallecano are a Madrid based side from the working class neighbourhood of Vallecas plying their trade in the Spanish second tier ( Segunda División ). The clubs home shirt is distinctive with a red sash on a white shirt and because of this they adopted the nickname Los Franjirrojos (The Red Sashes). They were commonly talked about has Madrid’s 3rd team obviously in the shadow of Real and Atlético, but in recent times they have fell behind Getafe therefore if you were to rank the Madrid based sides they would be 4th in line. They play their football in the Campo de Fútbol de Vallecas which has a capacity of 14,708. The club were relegated to the 2nd tier at the end of the 2015-2016 season after their longest consecutive stint in the top tier that lasted 5 years. The clubs best finish in the top tier came in the 2012-2013 season when they finished in 8th place.
Rayo also reached the Quarter-final stage of the Uefa Cup during the 2000-2001 season after qualifying for the competition via the Fair Play draw, they were knocked out of the competition by eventual runners up Alavés. Last season the club finished in 12th position in the Segunda so I am expecting that the owners will be looking for a better showing this coming season which will be your first in charge if you take them on at the beginning of the game. The club have brought in a number of players on free transfers or season long loans during this summer including the Argentine forward Óscar Trejo (29) from French side Toulouse. Looking at the 1st team squad the average age is 29 so you have an opportunity to build a younger squad over time.
Possible Aims For The Save:
- Promotion back to the top tier
- Stabalise the club in the top tier
- Finish above 8th position in the top tier
- Qualify for European Competition
- Develop and field an homegrown 11 (a dream of the Rayo community)
- Win the Copa Del Rey
- Challenge the big boys of Madrid by winning a title
- Win a European Competition
- Expand or build a new ground
